Some Tips for Traveling to the Red River Gorge with Your Dog

Whether you’re visiting for the trails or you are looking for a peaceful getaway, here are a few tips to help make your trip run smoothly.

  • Bring pet beds and blankets. As most cabins do not allow pets on the furniture or on the beds, it’s a good idea to have a designated space on the floor for your pup to rest. This way, the furniture stays clean, and your dog is happy to be resting with the family.
  • Bring dog bowls, plenty of food, and water. If hiking is not your thing, then water may not be necessary, as there’s running water in each cabin, but if you are planning on long hikes, then it’s a good idea to bring water so your puppy can stay nicely hydrated. Collapsible dog bowls are ideal for storing in backpacks, providing easy access on the trail when your dog gets thirsty. Additionally, remember to bring enough dog food for your stay.
  • Check leash rules. Daniel Boone National Forest and nearby parks have leash rules to help protect wildlife and other dogs. Make sure you know these rules before you go out hiking or adventuring.
  • Always Confirm Pet Policy! Although the pet policies are listed for each cabin in this article and on their booking page, policies can change, and it never hurts to double-check.
