my wife, 2 yr old daughter and i had a blast at the cabin. the cabin was neat and clean, perfect for our family getaway. shares a parking lot with a cute small motel but wasn't a problem for us, the deck over the river provides a feeling of seclusion. look forward to coming back.

Cute cabin, but definitely not private. Clean and the hot tub was nice. There were mice in the kitchen, we could not leave any food out, and I felt I had to clean everything before using in case of mouse droppings.

Great cabin in the perfect location of Red River Gorge. Close to hiking trails, small shops, and Miguels pizza. Hot tub is perfect for chilly weather. Some things to be aware of - LOTS of mice with dropping all over the kitchen and on appliances. No service or wifi, so be prepared to be disconnected for a few days (this can be a positive or negative for some). Bring extra bath towels, beach towels for the hot tub, paper towels, trash bags, toilet paper, cups. Highly recommend bringing paper plates and utensils as well due to mouse droppings!!

Great kick off location for Daniel Boone National Forest! As other reviews state, it is not completely remote, but wasn’t an issue as we were out hiking, kayaking, and bourbon tasting. Cabin was cute and well kept. Area is fantastic! Mexican place down the road is great.

Great place! Amazing hot tub. Place was clean and updated. Bring dvds!! Perfectly secluded enough to feel away from others and it was close to all the trails we wanted to hike.

I had a great stay, it was conveniently close to natural bridge, trails, and restaurants. It’s close to the road so it’s easy to locate, but some traffic noise during day.

We enjoyed staying here for our anniversary. It was clean and close to everything. It was easy to just run across the street and grab some firewood last minute for the fire. The maintenance man was super friendly, courteous and responsive. Someone had ran over the cable line when mowing. He was there within a couple minutes to repair it. It is close to the lodge but there is still plenty of privacy. We would not hesitate to book this cabin again.

Cute older cabin. Playing pool was fun. Easy accesss to coffee shops and stores, It is next to the creek that is beautiful but also it is close to the road so you hear cars and people. There is very limited kitchen stuff so bring all you need for spicing and tea and coffee ect. Over all it was nice

This is a quaint/rustic little cabin, but it is not cozy in the traditional sense, and lacks finishing details to make it "nice". We found that it met our needs for a place to stay for a few nights, but may not have been worth the price point, given that lots of little details were overlooked or missing. Not fully clean in places, missing various sundries, etc.

It is NOT private in the way the pictures present it, as it's right next to a gravel parking lot and the Black Bear Inn (4-6 rooms). It's close to the main road with all the associated road noise in the day, but the saving grace is the sound of the running creek at night that is just off the back deck. This was a perfectly fine little place to stay when visiting the RRG, but lacks the care and details that would make it worth the almost $200/night. We run vacation rentals of our own a few hours away, and know that our guests always expect details like the ones described above to be done.

Highlights were the pool table, the hot tub, and the fire pit (though they did not provide firewood). All in all, we muddled through, enjoyed our family time, and appreciate their hospitality, but we hope they will improve things for future guests.

We were grateful to find the Grizzly on short notice in the Fall. As others have mentioned, it is RIGHT beside a motel parking lot, so there's little privacy + road noise. Beds are VERY comfortable & everything was very clean. Nice large bathroom. Bring a flashlight for the hot tub area, as it is pitch dark. We needed to use our own folding camp chairs so all 4 of us could sit outside at the fire pit & hot tub area. Loved the outdoor picnic dining table. Indoor sitting spaces were tight for the TV room + dining table for 4. Check-in is actually inside the Daniel Boone coffee shop in the back... took us a while to find it.

We had a great stay here! The cabin is so cute and the hot tub is a huge plus! Like the other reviews say, the cabin is not completely secluded but the location is still great and you’re close to the restaurants. We had no issues with the location so don’t let that deter you from staying here! This was the nicest cabin I’ve stayed at in RRG so far and it’s a really good deal for as nice as it is! We would definitely come back!

Shares a parking lot with a lodge.. people think this cabin is the check in office. Little to no privacy. Hot tub jets didn’t work.. other than that it was okay. Probably wouldn’t stay here again.
Also, no towels provided. You have to ask for them.

The Grizzly cabin is very centrally located to the hot spots of RRG - sightseeing, shops, restaurants, etc. There were some pros & cons of our stay…

Pros - close to many great sightseeing portions of RRG like Natural Bridge, Mill Creek Lake, and the Tunnel. Close to all the souvenir shops and great restaurants. Only 10 minutes to the grocery store. The beds were very comfortable. The windows in the front of the cabin let in beautiful natural light. The porch wraps around three of the four sides and overlooks the river/creek located right next to the cabin with an easy access trail to wade in the water. They provide a few trash bags, toilet paper, and coffee filters. Be sure to ask the rental office for bath towels - they do not leave them in the cabin. The rental office is right next door to the cabin and they have DVDs and board games to borrow for rainy days. Communication was fantastic with Nancy when I had questions, as well as with the rental office when picking up keys, towels, and checking out. If there’s a band playing at the bbq restaurant at night, you’ll be able to sit on the porch and listen to the music!

Cons - The cabin shares a gavel parking lot with a small Lodge (has maybe 10 rooms at the Lodge). As a few other people have commented, we had people coming to our cabin multiple times a day thinking we were the rental office. Some would knock, some would not and try to walk in (we started keeping the door locked at all times), other times we were able to see them walking up & we would redirect them. If you don’t shut the blinds at night, you’ll have headlights from cars parking at the Lodge all night, plus they’ll be able to see into the cabin at night, as well. A few times while sitting on the deck looking out in the water or sitting in the hot tub, a few people staying at the Lodge walked their dogs behind the cabin startling us in the hot tub. There are a few outlets in the kitchen that have “do not use” on them, leaving only one outlet available for appliances. The pool table was a pro, until we played and a pool ball fell out of a broken pocket (only secured by a few different types of electrical tape or duct tape and even athletic tape) and landed on a foot.

All-in-all our stay at the cabin was great for us - two adults & 3 kids. We would have preferred something more secluded, but we’ll definitely book with Nancy again at another cabin available.

The cabin is spacious and close to attractions in the area. It’s conveniently located off the interstate and provides a nice space to relax after hiking and exploring.

First, there are some real great things about this place. It is centrally located and makes for a convenient home base to explore Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and it is not far from the Mountain Parkway. It is easily accessible. We enjoyed having access to satellite TV after a long day of hiking in the gorge.

The cabin shares a parking lot with the Black Bear Lodge. Our first evening was interrupted by a few guests of the Black Bear Lodge attempting to enter the cabin thinking it was the office to check in—which is actually located a short drive down the road at the Scenic Cabin Rentals office in a nearby coffee shop.

The fire ring area is adjacent to the parking lot and there were lots of cars coming and going as we were sitting by the fire. Behind the cabin, the hot tub area is only semi private. The photos and write up for this listing are a bit misleading about the lack of privacy.

The most concerning part is that we found what looked like rodent droppings on the kitchen counter, in the basket of hand towels, and in the drawer for kitchen utensils.

Some of the plates in the cabinet were greasy and had food residue stuck to them. I would recommend washing any of the available plates and utensils before use.

Despite the privacy and cleanliness issues we were able to enjoy our stay and create lasting memories. Honestly, however, we would go in a different direction on our next visit to the gorge.

We stayed at The Grizzly while hiking around Red River Gorge. The location is absolutely perfect. Convenient to shops and a few restaurants and location between Daniel Boone Forest and Natural Bridge State Park. The cabin is right near the road and there is a lodge on the same property so it isn’t exactly remote but none of that bothered us. It was quiet and very clean.

The cabin was very clean and wonderful. It is right in the middle of everything which is nice— the only downside to this is you can see and hear the road which was kind of a bummer. It is also right next to a “motel” so there is very little privacy. If I could put this cabin in a different location I would’ve given it 5 stars

We had a lovely stay at this cabin. It is located right in the middle of everything and is much less secluded than it appears in pictures, however, there is privacy on the back deck with views of the river while relaxing in the hot tub. One thing to note, there is not wifi in the house which was nice to disconnect but was also a bit frustrating when trying to check the weather or plan our hiking trips. It was only a couple of minutes drive to get service, so we made it work. Overall we had a very nice stay!
